...from Randy Polumbo on a number of interesting matters.

Hello Friends,

Here are a bunch of fun things coming up, and points of interest I wanted to share with you! Thanks for looking.

CHICKEN LITTLE (my new sculpture show)

It is May again and I wanted to invite you to my solo show opening May 4, 6-9PM at the 29 Palms Creative Center in 29 Palms, California (next to Joshua Tree.) This is all new work in bronze, electronics, rubber chickens, marshmallow peeps, and so many embarrassing personal items, a new threshold has been crossed, even for me. Please see the attached invitation, or link for more details: http://29palmscreativecenter.com/may2007.html

ROCKSTAR @ ART QUEEN

Come to this fun show, curated by Shari Elf & myself, which includes a concert from 3-7 if you are in Joshua Tree on May 13 for HDTS. It features the work of artists who make visual art, and music, with examples of both. There is work in all media, including my new monumental solar piece “buttercup” which takes the form of a flower, with solar panel petals, and things you really have to see in person filling the pollinating arena. The show will be up for three months, Sat & Sun 1-6, so come by later too! Here is the full information: http://www.polumbo.com/blog/rockstar_press_release.pdf

HDTS (High Desert Test Sites)

This notorious event conjured by Andrea Zittel is on a more intimate scale this year, with less projects on May 12-13. Artists from all over make or perform site specific pieces in the desert, which are always remarkable. See the enclosed poster for particulars. The Art Queen opening and party IS the wind down event for HDTS, what a handsome and complimentary segue! At the bottom of the HDTS link is Andrea’s most kind review on some of my projects including some of the nicer things ever said about me, so keep scrolling! This is one of those really good websites where you have to click on every link, including the archives, it is feast. Thanks Andrea!

RADIATION & MAD SCIENTIST PROJECT RESULTS IN COZY NYC WATERFRONT HOME IN NY POST

Writer Adam Bonislawski was kind enough to include my early field research spray painting large roaches for tracking purposes on Avenue D in the 1980s and documents how this swashbuckling and fearless adaptability and a hell of a lot of good luck and help from others led me to rehabilitate an historic building hogged out of the rear of a block long power plant. We now live there happily, having mitigated both structural failure, and compelling radiation challenges that greatly increased post 9/11. I want to credit Larry Maltin for helping me figure out the shielding to protect my family from death rays, since he did not make it into the article due to his security profile. IS THAT REALLY MY HOUSE IN NEW YORK MAGAZINE, AND MY DAUGHTER IN THE VIDEO?

This is from last week, writer Charlotte Druckman crafted a cozy piece, and photographer David Allee really made it shine. They were not afraid to broadcast the truth about how I am a trash picker and dumpster diver. This is green building at its best, with retreaded, scavenged and found articles galore. http://nymag.com/homedesign/greatrooms/30908/

TURKEY TOWN BIODIESEL sells thousands of gallons of vegetable fuel! The bio-diesel gas station project behind Art Queen in Joshua Tree is busy and has sold several thousand gallons of way lower emission, non fossil, 100% vegetable diesel fuel. I run it as a not for profit, DIY thing. Click here if you want to join. It is the perfect place to tank up for those runs to LA or Vegas from Joshua Tree, and your exhaust smells like french fries. http://www.3-dlaboratory.com/turkeytown.html

Thanks, I hope to see you there, at the opening, HDTS, the concert, at the pump, and so forth!
